KC will rise to occasion at Champs, coach vows
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Neil Harrison, coach of Kingston College, is optimistic that the school will regain its rich heritage at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships this year.
Harrison made the declaration when Flow’s ‘Journey to Champs’ tour visited the North Street school on Friday, as the telecommunications firm continues its build-up to the March 15-19 championships at the National Stadium.
Kingston College has been the most dominant school in the boys’ championship, winning 31 titles at the showpiece event, including an unprecedented 14-year run from 1962-1975.
The school, known for its ‘Fortis’ moniker, finished second last year behind arch-rivals Calabar.
“As the motto suggests, the ‘Brave may fall but never yield’, and we fell last year, but we are hoping that this year will be a turn around and I am very optimistic that come Champs, the team will rise to the occasion,” Harrison noted after accepting the symbolic $200,000 cheque.
