PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Television talk show host Ian Alleyne will return to court on March 22 after he pleaded not guilty to three charges, including resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duties.

Alleyne appeared in the Chaguanas Magistrate Court in Central Trinidad one day after he was arrested at the home of a businessman where police had gone in relation to a domestic violence case that has since gone viral.

The arrest of Alleyne by Inspector Roger Alexander, who also hosts a crime show on a rival television station, had sparked allegations by Alleyne and his lawyers that the arrest was done in a bid to improve the ratings of the other show.

Alexander dismissed the allegation, saying that Alleyne had been told to leave a crime scene. Television footage showed a protesting Alleyne being arrested by Alexander and physically removed from the property and escorted into a black-coloured vehicle.

Alleyne, who was hospitalised briefly on Tuesday after complaining of chest pains, has been released on TT$20,000 (One TT dollar =US$0.16 cents) bail.

Meanwhile, the businessman, Sheron Sukhdeo, has been granted TT$85,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the domestic violence related charges.
