Patient being treated for H1N1 dies
KINGSTON, Jamaica — OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that one of the individuals being treated for the H1N1 influenza virus at the University Hospital of the West Indies has died.
The person’s identity has not been released.
Acting Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Winston De La Haye confirmed that a patient that was being treated for the virus died but he could not say it was as a result of the virus.
“It may not be appropriate to say it’s H1N1 because the cause of death may not be reasoned as H1N1,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE a short while ago.
On Thursday, Dr De La Haye had said that nine cases of the virus had been confirmed and that the patients were being treated at UHWI.
More information later.
