THE Police High Command has given the thumbs up to the ‘Drop of Love’ blood drive, being spearheaded by LASCO/ JCF Police Officer of the year, Detective Sergeant Ava Lindo.

The blood drive, which will take place this Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Police Officers’ Club in Kingston, has the full endorsement of Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams, who has encouraged all Jamaicans to “join me in support of this worthy venture”.

Dr Williams noted that “the National Blood Transfusion Service provides a critical service to all and I am proud to support Sergeant Lindo in this effort. I am also appealing for the public’s support as well, because every contribution can save a life”.

The blood drive, which is also being supported by Lindo’s Lasco ambassadors — the LASCO/NAJ Nurse of the Year Treveen Palmer and LASCO/ Ministry of Education Principal of the Year Kandi-Lee Crooks-Smith — is aimed at collecting 500 units of blood which will aid in increasing the donor pool, as well as boost the assistance given to hospitals and health centres served by the Blood Bank.

In addition to the main site at the Police Officers’ Club, interested persons may also donate blood at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James, the St Ann’s Bay Hospital in St Ann, the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland, and the Mandeville Regional Hospital in Manchester. These four centres will close at 3:00 pm.
