It’s still early days, but if I am not mistaken, I have heard nothing from the leaders about crime.

I was totally disappointed upon realising the fact that the new Prime Minister Andrew Holness did not mention anything about our serious crime problem during his inauguration speech at King’s House and also during his keynote address at the swearing-in ceremony of the Cabinet.

I am feeling quite satisfied with those two brilliant speeches our young prime minister has given so far, but Jamaica’s biggest problem, the life-taking one, which is crime and violence, should be at the forefront in his address to the nation.

I know that they are already aware of the fact that the country is in a fiery furnace with crime and violence, and will do their utmost to control it, but he would have got more encouraging and satisfactory points and applause from the public if he had made a convincing comment about the crime monster in his two remarkable speeches.

Saying this, however, doesn’t mean that he did not do enough. We all are standing with him. May God give them the strength and all the necessary skills to manage our affairs.
