ONLINE READERS’ COMMENT – Who will bell the PNP’s cat?
The Editor:
In the aftermath of its shambolic campaign and narrow defeat at the polls there are, understandably, loud cries for the head of the PNP, Portia Simpson Miller. Ordinarily, her swift departure would be a slam dunk. Clearly, the future leadership must lie in the hands of someone like the front runner, the young, cool ,brilliant, tech-savvy Julian Robinson.
But this scenario is complicated by the fact that the entire leadership of the PNP appears to have been implicated in the electoral disaster. Certainly, as Prime Minister, the buck has to stop with Portia for the ridiculous decisions to call a premature election and refusing to debate even though she had done so successfully in 2011.
But her likely successor, campaign director Peter Phillips, was a disaster. He may have passed umpteen IMF tests but he failed dismally at Politics 101, demonstrating, once again, this time beyond all reasonable doubt, his fatally flawed political judgment. It will take more than all the perfumes in Arabia to bring back the sweet smell to his reputation.
Who, then, will bell the PNP cat? Or to use a Biblical analogy, let him who is without sin cast the first stone ? Stay tuned.
