RHODES HALL, Hanover — Defending champions Spot Valley High and Mt Alvernia High stayed on course to meet in the finals of the ISSA Western Conference Girls Open basketball competition after winning their fourth- straight games in contrasting style on Friday.

Spot Valley High scored an easy 20-point (51-31) win over Rhodes Hall at Rhodes Hall, while Mt Alvernia had yet another close win, beating Holland High by one point (13-12) in the first game of a double-header at Muschett High.

They are now on eight points each and will avoid each other in the semi-finals, which have been postponed from next week for a new date to be decided, organisers told the Jamaica Observer on Friday.

Rhodes Hall are on six points in third place, while Holland High and Muschett High, who had their first win, beating Montego Bay High 33-9, are both on five points, and Montego Bay High are on four after losing all four games played so far.

Nassan-Gay Ricketts followed up her 51-point game earlier in the week against Montego Bay High to lead Spot Valley with 47 points and eight rebounds on Friday in their win at Rhodes Hall.

Rodene Morris scored 12 points for the home team, along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Keron Brown had eight points.

In the first game at Muschett, the consistent Cheryl-Lee Reid scored 10 points to lead Mt Alvernia in their low-scoring win over Holland.

Muschett High, the national champions three years ago, had their best game of the season as Nakita Bell’s 13 points and Rockel Mason’s 10 points saw them get a win over hapless Montego Bay High, who were held scoreless in the first and fourth quarters.
