Zendaya battles body shamer
It went down on Saturday night! And in a not-so good way. On Saturday night young celebs flocked the orange carpet for Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards. Dancer, singer and Disney star Zendaya was there and looking fab as usual….but apparently comedian Julie Klausner didn’t think so.
The outspoken comedian took to Twitter to jibe Zendaya’s thin figure and implied the “thinspo model” was no good for impressionable tweens. She furthered tweeted that you mightn’t need an eating disorder to attend the KCAs but that it certainly helps.
The 19-year-old quickly fired back, “Do you find this funny? I will write another paragraph to educate you as well #youreallywannabenext?” It’s likely she was alluding to the spat that ensued after Giuliana Rancic (from E!) said Zendaya looked like she’d smell of weed, when discussing her now iconic dreadlocs look last year. And man, did she school Giuliana. But we digress.
Zendaya had the last say when she chose to use the moment to inspire body confidence and self-love by tweeting, “Now….everyone go look in the mirror at their beautiful body, and love that s–t #thickgirlswinning #skinnygirlswinning #weallwinning”
She then proceeded to revel in the night’s achievements (she picked up an orange blimp for Favourite TV Actress for her role in KC Undercover) and interact with her Twitter followers.
When one fan jumped to defend Zendaya and told Julie she was being “pathetic” and asked if she was doing this to gain followers online she saucily implied she was doing this just because she could. After a few attempts at being humorous and trying to win the angry Twitter masses over Klausner tweeted, “I won’t apologize, non-apologize, delete tweets, backpedal or refuse to own my s–t. But I will be more thoughtful going forward.”
Hopefully Julie Klausner has genuinely learned her lesson because Zendaya’s right – #weallwinning. (And remember to watch it in the streets: young Zendaya’s slaying 🙂
