Digicel Group acquires TRES Networks in Curacao

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Digicel today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire TRES Networks in Curacao, for an undisclosed sum, pending Government approval.

TRES Networks is a fixed and international long distance telecommunications operator and distributor of digital television and entertainment services.

It provides residential and business customers with high-speed Internet, voice and digital services over the island’s first and only 100 per cent fibre-optic network.

Digicel said it will work with the existing management team to bring enhanced services to customers in Curacao.

With its all-fibre optic network, Digicel said TRES Networks supports Digicel’s “ongoing focus on helping customers compete by delivering them the most advanced business solutions, in the release announcing the deal.

“TRES is pleased to have come to an agreement with Digicel Curacao – a company with a strong brand – that will not only bring a high level of expertise to the operations of TRES, but will also bring considerable market power that will enable TRES to quickly expand its network reach on the island, enhance its services and above all, reach its considerable potential,” Frank de Frémery, CEO of TRES Networks was quoted as saying.

Colm Delves, CEO for Digicel Group, said for Digicel’s customers, this will mean “increased investment in even better services and new technologies in Curacao in the near future”.

Digicel Group, a 14-year-old company, is a communications and entertainment provider with operations in 32 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific.
