Woman allegedly robbed by man she met on Facebook
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A man accused of robbing a Manchester girl whom he met on Facebook of her cellular phone and tablet after inviting her to spend time with him in Kingston was remanded when he appeared in court on a larceny by trick charge.
The accused, 29-year-old Martin Warmington, of Shortwood Road in Kingston, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared in court on Tuesday before Parish Judge Maxine Ellis.
However, he was remanded after he pleaded guilty to a charge of simple larceny of an ABM card in a different matter.
According to allegations, sometime in 2007 the complainant met the accused on the social media website and he introduced himself as Tre Edwards.
She subsequently came to Kingston to meet Warmington and stayed at his house.
During the complainant’s visit, she reportedly went to a park in Half-Way-Tree with him and while there she left her HTC cell phone with him and went to buy something. On the complainant’s return Warmington had reportedly disappeared with the phone.
The complainant, who was new to Kingston, reportedly could not remember how to get to Warmington’s house to retrieve her phone along with a tablet that she had left at his house.
A report was subsequently made to the police and in February of this year the police conducted a search at Warmington’s house and the HTC phone was found.
Warmington’s mother’s house was also searched and the complainant’s tablet was reportedly found as well.
However, Warmington denied the allegations.
“The incident with the girl is just something to keep me longer in custody,” he told the judge. “I did not steal anything from her.”
Attorney Kerry-Ann Duhaney who is representing Warmington subsequently asked for disclosure and the matter was set for mention on Friday when he is to be sentenced in the other matter.
