In 2008, Cherine Anderson made history as the first Jamaican female singer to enter Billboard magazine’s Rock Chart.

Say Hey (I Love You), her collaboration with Michael Franti and Spearhead, peaked at number six. Nine years later, she is hoping for similar success with Moola.

Released in March, Moola is making strides in Colombia and Brazil. Produced by Colin ‘Bulby’ York, the single is from York’s Epic & Ting album.

“Moola is about money, something most people care about and can’t live without. The beat is infectious and the subject matter is universal,” she said.

A blend of dancehall and electronica, Moola was recently released by VP Records.

“Moola is a fresh sound, but we are truly building on that fusion that we already know people love. Bulby created an awesome beat, so it made writing easy,” she said.” In fact, up to the point where I went into the studio, I didn’t have words or melody so what you hear on the track is a pure and natural reaction to what I felt after hearing the beat in the studio.”

Anderson said she has always been attracted to fusion music. This, she says, is evident in some of her songs like Make Up Sex and Candy Cane.

Anderson and Bulby have worked on other projects. He was the audio engineer for her songs, Shine On Jamaica and Eagles And Doves.

“I think he understands my creative process and there is so much mutual respect for each other’s craft, it makes working together fun. In addition, we’ve done several tours together with him as front of house engineer when we toured with Sly and Robbie,” she said.

In addition to promoting Moola, Anderson is working on several singles with producers from 20 Six Music Group and Sly and Robbie.
