Hillstars, Porus clash in Manchester U-17 final
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The Manchester FA/Moorland Development/Pat Anderson Under-17 football competition culminates today with Hillstars FC looking to win a second-successive title.
The Spalding-based side will play Porus FC in the final at the Kirkvine Sports Club.
Game time is 3:30 pm.
As the defending champions, Hillstars are likely to start as slight favourites. But it is Porus who will enter the contest with the superior preliminary-round record.
The central Manchester side was the top-performing side in the prelims, winning all five games to head Zone Three with maximum 15 points. They were the best attacking team and the second-best defensive team, scoring 24 goals while conceding only once.
In the play-offs, Porus blanked Christiana Academy 4-0 at the quarter-final stage, before stopping 360° Youth Football Academy 4-2 on penalties in the semi-finals. The teams had battled to a 1-1 draw in full and extra time.
Hillstars were second best in their preliminary-round group, placing second to 360° in Zone One due to an inferior goal difference.
Both sides had ended the prelims with 11 points after recording two wins and two draws each, with Hillstars scoring one goal fewer than 360°.
In the play-offs, Hillstars beat Cross Keys 2-0 in the quarter-finals before edging Ricam Academy 1-0 at the semi-final stage.
This means they are yet to concede a goal in the competition and will more than likely fancy themselves against the free-scoring Porus outfit.
