Rest stop to be completed this month
DIRECTOR of Public Relations and Communications in the Ministry of Transport and Works, Vando Palmer, says the rest stop facility along the north-south link of Highway 2000 is to be completed and available to the public this month.
The facility is located at Unity Valley near the Moneague exit and is the only rest stop along the 66-kilometres-long highway, which runs from Caymanas in St Catherine to Mammee Bay in St Ann.
“There’s a new facility at Unity Hall which would incorporate a lot of those persons (vendors) who were at Faith’s Pen. So it is at that location you will have food and bathroom facilities,” Palmer told the Jamaica Observer.
Added to that, Palmer said there are no more plans, as far as he is aware of, to construct anymore facilities along that leg of the highway.
In the meantime, Transport and Mining Minister Mike Henry has urged operators to be brisk in completing the facility, as motorists using the highway have been calling for the facility to become operational as a matter of urgency.
Henry said the structural works have been completed, but electricity and water facilities are still being worked on.
