Commissioner wants JDF to increase joint patrols
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams says discussions are underway with the Jamaica Defence Force to increase the number of security personnel on the nation’s roads to combat the surge in murders across the island.
Over 300 people have been killed since the start of the year.
Williams, speaking to journalists at a press conference at his office on Monday, said the Police High Command views the increase in murder and crime overall seriously.
“…We are doing everything we can to ensure that Jamaicans are safe. We’re also doing everything to ensure that visitors to our country are safe. We are working with the military to see whether or not we can roll out some additional personnel to some other areas where we have problems,” the Commissioner said.
He also said the move is in an effort to ensure wider and more effective presence to reduce opportunities for crimes and especially violent crimes.
