Campbell knocks Omar’s endorsement of Golding for South St Andrew seat
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former managing director of the Government-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company Colin Campbell has voiced, in no uncertain terms, concerns that Member of Parliament for South St Andrew Dr Omar Davies is endorsing Mark Golding as his likely successor in the garrison constituency.
Davies is expected to demit office in August. Campbell and Golding, who is vice chairman of the constituency, are seeking to replace him in that position.
Campbell, speaking to editors and reporters at a Jamaica Observer Press Club now under way at the newspaper’s Beechwood Avenue, St Andrew offices, said South St Andrew was not a “kingdom” and that Davies was not a “king” that he should choose his successor.
The former Cabinet minister insisted that the People’s National Party (PNP) has a democratic process and that Davies should allow delegates to decide who should succeed him without interfering.
Campbell said: “It is not proper.”
