Club Stars, Salt Spring United meet in Division One semi-final

Club Stars, Salt Spring United meet in Division One semi-final

MONTEGO BAY, St James — The first finalists in the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Division One competition will be known this afternoon when Club Stars and Salt Spring United meet at the UDC field in their return-leg semi-final game, set to start at 3:30pm.

The teams will have it all to play for after Club Stars surprised favourites Salt Spring United and earned a 3-3 draw when they met last week.

Salt Spring beat Club Stars twice in the regular season, but were surprised by a change of tactic and formation, and were forced to come from behind twice to earn a draw going into today’s must-win game.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final tie between Revelation FC and Somerton FC is also tied after the teams played out an exciting 2-2 draw on Monday at the UDC field.

The return leg will be played next Monday afternoon.

Today with everything at stake, including promotion to the Senior League next season, neither team can afford any mistakes, and could see a reversal of last week’s goal fest.

Club Star’s Rushane Williams was the secret weapon last week, as after playing most of the season in goal, he started as a striker and scored twice to set up an interesting game.

There will be little secret to Salt Spring’s plans, with Lavario Whyte expected to lead the way after scoring a league-leading 17 goals so far, and should get support from Kemar Sterling and teenager Andre Allen.
