KINGSTON, Jamaica – Concerned that too many of his peers have a casual approach to sex, singer Denny To The Fray encourages responsibility on his latest song, Safe Sex.

Co-produced by Denny To The Fray and Mark Sterling, Safe Sex was inspired by the flood of explicit teen visuals on social media.

“A song like Safe Sex is needed, because we are seeing the values and norms about sex disappearing in front of our eyes with the recent outpouring of schoolgirls doing all manner of acts on social media. It’s a true indicator that our kids are having sex younger and younger every day,” he said.

The artiste, who is in his 20s, believes the entertainment community should be more involved in educating youth on sexual matters, considering they are among the industry’s biggest supporters.

“Music also plays a huge part. Lyrics are way more raw and sexualised and also speaks volumes of what is expected from sex, but no one is making it clear to practice safe sex,” said Denny To The Fray.

Four years ago, Dr Fenton Ferguson, then Jamaica’s health minister, addressed a worrying trend among young females contracting HIV/AIDS. He said the 15-19 age group accounted for the majority of cases.

Ferguson disclosed that four times as many young women in these age groups had been reported with AIDS than young men.

Born Denny Fray Walcott in Lionel Town, Clarendon, Denny To The Fray has lived in Canada since 1997. He began recording three years ago, his first song being Keep Blazing.

Safe Sex will be available on itunes through Hapilos 21 Digital on June 24.
