Buzz Nightmare haunts rivals in Open Allowance event at Caymanas
In a performance demonstrating class, talent and superiority, the progressive Buzz Nightmare crippled rivals in the deep stretch to win the top-rated Open Allowance event on the 11-race programme at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Trained by many-time champion Philip Feanny and ridden in fine style by Oneil Mullings, Buzz Nightmare (Into Mischief — Queen Of Battle) got a good break and stayed with the field before he drew away in the last furlong and a half to win by six-and-a-half lengths in the three-year-olds and upward event over 1,000 metres straight.
Crucial Appeal, under champion jockey Shane Ellis, was expected to take the fight to the winner on the lead, but found the speed of Buzz Nightmare too hot to handle and finished in second position, three-and-a-half lengths ahead of the versatile American-bred Uppa Tune, the mount of Wesley Henry, which was third.
Long Running Train (Dane Dawkins up) came on well for fourth position in the six-horse field. The winning time was a decent 57.2 seconds.
“This race was very easy, nothing to contest us. From we entered and broke out of the starting gates, the race was pretty much over,” Mullings told the Sunday Observer.
Ocean Seeker and Rani won both sections of the John Clifton Wright Memorial Cup feature, a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-old fillies over 1,200 metres.
Trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Amoy Gray, Ocean Seeker won section one by two lengths over Reassurance and Valley Of The Cats in 1:16:0 minutes.
Rani, with Wesley Henry riding for trainer Christopher Pierre, easily won her section by five lengths in 1:15:0 minutes. Racing continues Wednesday.
