Gleaner journalist Glenroy Sinclair is dead
Senior journalist at the Gleaner Company Glenroy Sinclair died yesterday from a suspected heart attack.
Sinclair, 49, collapsed at his desk at the Gleaner on Friday and was rushed to the nearby Kingston Public Hospital. But he died around 4:00 am, leaving the media fraternity in shock.
“This is stunning news. Glenroy was my close friend from the days that we worked at the Gleaner,” said H G Helps, the Jamaica Observer’s Editor-at-Large. “It’s a double blow for me, as his death has come only five hours after the passing of legendary former world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, whom I idolised.”
At the time of his death, Sinclair was the Gleaner‘s assignment coordinator. He had spent several years covering the crime beat for the Gleaner, and was also known for the role he played in giving the sport of motor racing and karting prominence in the media.
Sinclair was also one of the reporters who, in the 1980s, set out to highlight happenings in local women’s football, which has since risen to higher levels of performance.
The Gleaner‘s Editor-in-Chief Garfield Grandison yesterday described Sinclair as “a true professional who was dedicated and committed to journalism”, one who also looked out for the welfare of others.
