‘Magnum’ showdown tonight
FOUR finalists will face off in the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition at Breezy Castle Mini Stadium in downtown Kingston, tonight.
They are princes Zigma and Accid and princesses Clymaxx and Mi Ya Estro.
Contestants Shemdon and Mystery P were eliminated in last Saturday’s staging of the competition, held at D’Entrance on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew.
The event saw each act performing three songs.
Accid’s presentation of None a Dem No Badda Than Me, Lalala Ruhhuh Part Two, and Shoot Out, and Zigma’s set, which included Run Outa Breath and Lyrical Death, were well received. Resident judge Miss Kitty asked the performers to put more emphasis on their presentation.
Mi Ya Estro delivered Rape, Sweet Mouth and Step. The latter, a jab at rival Clymaxx about her former relationship with guest judge, Masicka.
Clad in a clown suit with an eerie mask, Clymaxx was in a no-nonsense mood. She dropped Baddest Ting, If them Ever Try Me and Kill Dem Dead, which were well received.
She also used the opportunity to address the father of her four-year-old son.
“It alright. Remember say we are two independent entities so we ah guh buck up, cause we deh inna the music. So nothing nuh really wrong,” she said.
Title sponsors Magnum Tonic Wine have added benefits for the top 8 contestants in this year’s competition: Princes Skillarchie, Shemdon, Accid, Zigma and Princesses Mizza Bling, Mytery P, Mi Ya Estro and Clymaxx.
“The top 8 artistes of Season 9 will be supported by making opportunities for further exposure available immediately after the contest,” said Omar Palmer, marketing manager — fortified wines & liqueurs, J Wray & Nephew Ltd.
The winners of the competition will be awarded a recording contract from Frass Records, $1million each, and the coveted Magnum crown.
