‘Spuddy’ Rickman at his best paying tribute to Muhammad Ali

It is well known among sports enthusiasts that race commentator Brian ‘Spuddy’ Rickman is certainly one of the best callers of races ever heard in Jamaica and indeed across the English-speaking Caribbean.

It is well known among sports enthusiasts that race commentator Brian ‘Spuddy’ Rickman is certainly one of the best callers of races ever heard in Jamaica and indeed across the English-speaking Caribbean.

On Saturday last while commentating on the day’s 10th event won by Buzz Nightmare, Rickman outdid himself and garnered even more respect and kudos for his amazing ability to incorporate the latest happenings into his race commentary.

Paying tribute to Muhammad Ali, the self-proclaimed ‘Greatest’, who from early in his career transcended the sport of boxing, Rickman found a unique way of incorporating his tribute during his commentary of the race. Ali had passed away the night before Saturday’s race day.

This was how Rickman paid his creative homage to Ali.

“ Buzz Nightmare, in honour of Muhammad Ali, is floating like a butterfly, and stings them like a bee. Buzz Nightmare in a knock-out over Crucial Appeal and Uppa Tune.”

By using one of Ali’s most famous phrases – ‘float like a butterfly, sting like a bee’ – Rickman once again reaffirmed the greatness of Ali in true Jamaican style.

Well done, ‘Spuddy’.
