TORRINGTON Early Childhood Institute, by amassing a combined score of 178.50 points, crowned themselves the new champions of the INSPORTS All-Island Basic Schools Athletics Championships that ended at the National Stadium last Friday.

The winners, in the process, snapped the victory run of defending champions Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB)/RJR and Elim Early Childhood.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR were second with 123 points, followed by Gemglows Kindergarten 93.50, first-timers Spanish Town Infant 90, Silverstone Basic 86, Laura’s Basic 40.50, Drews Avenue Primary 37, Kids Choice Early Childhood 36, Early Achievers 34, Lalyce Gray Early Childhood 29.83, Elite Basic 27, Mavisville Prep 23, Excelsior Pre-Primary 21, St Francis Infant 20.50, and Providence Heights Infant with 20.33 points.

The three-day championship featured events for boys and girls in classes one, two and three in 28 events.

Torrington also captured both the boys’ and girls sections, respectively. In the boys’ category, they scored 98 points ahead of Spanish Town’s 61, Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR 60.50 and Silverstone with 45 points, while in the girls’ section, Torrington won with 80.50 points, followed by Gemglows 77, Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR 62.50 and Silverstone with 41 points.

Divondrae Matthews of Spanish won the Class One boys 80 metres final in 13.37 seconds ahead of Jhamahi Simpson of Mavisville (13.58) and Amari Gayle of Bethany Basic (13.60).

Naje Brown of Junior World Learning captured the girls’ equivalent in 13.95 seconds ahead of Jaylin Griffiths of Gemglows (14.00) and Nikeisha Palmer (14.03).
