Owen Knibbs does European club circuit
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Thanks to his 1987 song, Juggler, singer Owen Knibbs established a cult following in Europe. But it was not until recently that he reached out to fans there.
In April, Knibbs did 12 shows in Portugal, Spain, France, The Netherlands and Germany.
“They were club dates. Some of the venues could hold 500 people and the reception was good,” Knibbs told the OBSERVER ONLINE.
His next career move is strategic. He plans to release some of his new songs including Dem A Cheat on a format that has always been popular in Europe.
“We want to release some singles on vinyl for the European market because they only play vinyl, so my other songs on iTunes are not officially released over there. They only play Juggler,” he explained.
Produced by Leon Virgo, Juggler is Knibbs’ best-known song. Last year, it was reissued by Jamwax Records, an independent French company.
Dem A Cheat is produced by Phorein Records.
