Sixth-place shot put finish for Richards in Oslo
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s World Championship bronze medallist O’Dayne Richards finished sixth today in the men’s shot put at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Olso, Norway.
Richards had a best throw of 19.14m and finished behind American Joe Kovacs with 22.01m, which was achieved with his sixth and final throw. However, he had assumed the lead with his fifth attempt of 21.51m.
World Junior champion Konrad Bukowiecki of Poland was second with 21.14m, which was a new Under-20 World Record. He finished ahead of his countryman, Tomasz Majewski who finished third with a throw of 20.58m.
Richards, 27, who had a tibia surgery in March, opened with 18.28m but was in sixth place of the seven competitors after round one. He improved slightly to 18.41m with his second throw, but was still in sixth place.
Despite a better throw of 19.14m, Richards still remained in sixth after three rounds and was eliminated.
