Sprinter Jason Livermore was arguably the happiest athlete at the JN Racers Grand Prix on June 11 — or at least he celebrated the most, almost running another 200 metres after he ran a new lifetime best 10.03 seconds (1.6m/s) to win the B 100m race.

A full 30 minutes after the race he was still emotional, celebrating after lowering the 10.05 seconds he had run two years ago. It was an indication he is back to full health.

Livermore had crashed to the track in late April at the Penn Relays, where he was part of the Jamaican 4x200m team.

“It was just a cramp, a level two cramp, but I bounced back from that and have to give God thanks for the recovery and a big PB tonight; my coach must be smiling right now,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

That time makes him the eighth-fastest Jamaican man this season, and gives him the confidence that he can step up and claim a spot in the men’s 100m finals in this weekend’s JAAA Olympic Trials at the National Stadium.

“This is my second race this season and a personal best, oh my God, I can’t explain this,” he said.

While admitting that progress has been slow at times, he said his Coach Michael Clarke has been very patient.

“We have been taking things step by step, one day at a time,” he informed. “It has been, in some ways, pressuring, but I am glad to get through the races and getting faster.”

The Commonwealth Games 200m bronze medallist and member of the gold medal winning men’s 4x100m team said his realistic expectation is “to make the Olympic team and go to Rio and represent my country to the fullest”.
