FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Holland United made a quick return to the Western Confederation Super League after they came from a goal down to beat mid-season champions Rio Bueno FC 2-1 in the final of the Trelawny Football Associations Monymusk Plantation Rum Major League played at Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Sunday.

An own goal in extra time decided the title in Holland United’s favour to break a 1-1 deadlock after the teams had scored in the first half.

Holland United returned to the Major League this season after being relegated from the Super League and were beating Rio Bueno FC for the second time this season.

Meanwhile, in the third place play-off, Spicy Hill SC beat Bunkers Hill So Fresh 2-0 with Jermaine Cato scoring both goals, the first in the third minute and the second in the 49th minute.

In the final, Garfield Stewart gave Rio Bueno FC the lead in the 26th minute with his 19th goal of the season.

Ronique Haynes pulled Holland United level in the 35th minute with his 10th goal of the season and the game appeared headed for extra time when an own goal gave Holland United the edge and killed Rio Bueno FCs hopes of a fairy-tale double.

Despite losing in the semi-finals of the Division One last season, Rio Bueno FC were promoted to the Major League because of their better club structure, then proceeded to win their first nine games on their way to the mid-season final where they beat Bunkers Hill So Fresh.

Holland United’s strong second half of the season that saw them finish the season on a 10 games unbeaten run where they had thrashed Rio Bueno FC 6-1 in a cross-zone third-round game.
