Montague commends commissioner, JCF in fight against crime
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Security Minister Robert Montague says the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is the Caribbean’s best police force.
Montague, who was making his contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, admitted that there are a “few bad eggs… but the force as Chris Martin sings, is a big deal a really big deal.”
In expressing confidence and commending Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams, and by extension the force, Montague said: “When crime goes down as it is doing now; we must congratulate and commend Dr Williams, the High Command, the officers and rank and file.”
“We must, however, tackle murders as this is the index Jamaicans use to measure how safe they are,” Montague added.
The security minister outlined some steps that are expected to be taken to address the crime issue in Montego Bay and the wider western Jamaica. Among the measures are:
• Enhancing the intelligence network in western Jamaica.
•Expansion of MOCA West.
•Establishment of Mobile Reserve West.
•Creation of additional training space in western Jamaica.
•Establishment of a Coast Guard base in Montego Bay.
•Significant increase in the number of police in western Jamaica.
