A defining Eros Trophy
Time is running out for the cream of the crop to earn sufficient stakes in order to participate in the rich Diamond Mile scheduled for December.
The Eros Trophy (seven furlongs), which was thrown out on first offering, is again back on the programme with six entries, five from the barn of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, with Timeforarms – conditioned by Fitzroy Glispie – the lone outsider. The DaCosta runners are All Correct( Sprint Champion – Poker Star), first Diamond Mile winner – Seeking My Dream, the ever present Hovercraft, and the very tough and consistent Perfect Neighbour.
The $1.2-million Eros Trophy therefore provides an opportunity for the top horses to earn, especially since the ‘big boys’ have not raced in the last two months, and since another top-notch race, The Viceroy Trophy (nine furlongs), had to be abandoned because of a lack of entries.
The Complete Racing Guide does its usual analysis of another major race on the calendar.
ALL CORRECT – Very consistent sort and is always in with a chance although it must be said that at age seven his lights are dimming. Seven furlongs is a good distance for All Correct.
POKER STAR – The top sprinter in the land who has now tried his hooves at seven furlongs, a trip which might be just a tad over his best journey. Poker Star is gifted with undoubted quality and class, and to add to these attributes, he is strong and does not like to lose. Poker Star will have to be caught in this one and that is going to be difficult, very difficult.
SEEKING MY DREAM – Running for only the fourth time this year with a seasonal record of two wins and a second. The epitome of class, Seeking My Dream is very versatile, making the trip of seven furlongs right up his alley. He can stay with the pace as well as he can come from behind. Tomorrow expect Seeking My Dream to be off the pace before making a decisive move with three furlongs left in the race. Difficult to oppose even at the top of the scales and allowing weight to all.
TIMEFORARMS – Another very consistent sort who is going to find it very rough against these Timeforarms last won on May 7, which was a signal return to form for the seven-year-old. Solid and true, Timeforarms is going to earn well here.
HOVER CRAFT – Simply does not know how to run a bad race. Hover Craft will not be able to go with the early pace and will have his talk, if any, in the straight.
PERFECT NEIGHBOUR – Put in his place on last by Poker Star, but that was over five and a half furlongs. Now the distance is seven furlongs, which gives Perfect Neighbour a much better chance of competing.Perfect Neighbour won the Lady Geeta over six furlongs earlier this year to demonstrate his undoubted versatility. Will be off the pace, with his usual late kick expected to materialise in the straight.
