Jamaica edge Aruba 1-0 in CFU U14 competition
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica made it two wins in a row at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 14 Boys Tier 1 Challenge Series in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on Tuesday, edging 10-man Aruba 1-0 to maintain their lead in Group C.
After failing to score in the first half, the first time they were held scoreless in any half over the past two tournaments, Christian Foster came off the bench to score the game’s only goal.
Jamaica are on six points, three more than St Kitts/Nevis who rebounded from their loss to Jamaica to beat Curacao 4-2 in the other Group C game.
It was a physical encounter with the referee issuing at least five yellow cards and a red to Aruba’s Sebastian Wever, a second half substitute, late in the game.
Foster scored the winner after he was left unguarded in the middle of the goal and finished off a good team movement, firing a cheeky back heel pass from Tai-Sean Headley past goalkeeper Deymar Mercado Carrillo six minutes into the second half.
Jamaica will complete their first round schedule on Wednesday when they play Curacao, starting at 12:30pm, Jamaica time.
