Bartlett welcomes tourism/sport teamwork at Rio Olympics
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says that entertainment and sports have tremendous potential to significantly boost Jamaica’s tourism product.
He said that this would enable Jamaicans across the length and breadth of the island to benefit.
He was speaking at the launch of Jamaica House Rio 2016, at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Kingston, today.
“In the spirit of joined up government, we are working closely with my colleague Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and her team, to better leverage our advantages in the area of sports, to enhance our tourism product and attract visitors through initiatives like Jamaica House,” Bartlett told the function.
He said that the ministry would be capitalising on the “tremendous media exposure and positive publicity” which the Olympics can generate, to bolster brand Jamaica and lure more visitors.
“I must commend the various sponsors that have come on board to support this important venture, which is further proof that you are truly exemplary corporate citizens,” he added.
Jamaica House, will be the island’s hospitality hub at next month’s Rio Olympics in Brazil. Patrons from around the world will be able to watch our athletes train and compete, while enjoying authentic Jamaican hospitality at the venue.
Jamaica House will also facilitate networking opportunities, for local tourism partners and stakeholders with leaders in the international marketplace.
