Chambers, Matheson set to run 100m at Under-20 World Champs
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – From all indications Raheem Chambers and Jhevaughn Matheson will contest the men’s 100m on Tuesday’s first day of the IAAF World Under 20 championships here in Bydgoszcz.
Despite being disqualified at the JAAA National Junior Championships at the national stadium after he false started in the first round, world number two ranked Nigel Ellis was named in the three athletes declared by the team for the event sparking speculations that he could be named as one of the two athletes that would represent the island in the event.
Team officials told the Jamaica Observer On-line this morning no decisions had been made and they would be waiting until the last possible time to name the two of the three names entered.
However, it was Chambers and Matherson who were taken through their paces by coach Reynaldo Walcott in the indoor training facility on the Zawiszaw stadium complex yesterday.
Ellis joined them later towards the end of the training session after he had been drug tested by WADA representatives earlier in the day.
In 2008 when the event was held here also, Yohan Blake was named to contest the 100m along with eventual winner Dexter Lee after he had being disqualified at the National Junior Trials held then at GC Foster.
