PNP sets new date for selection of St Andrew South candidate
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The date for the selection of a candidate to replace Dr Omar Davies as chairman of the St Andrew South constituency has been pushed back.
Possible reasons for the change are unclear at this time but the new date for the selection exercise is July 30.
Earlier this month General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP) Paul Burke, told OBSERVER ONLINE that the contest between former Justice Minister Mark Golding and former managing director at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Colin Campbell was set for July 25.
Davies, a former minister of transport and works as well as finance, earlier this year said that he would not be seeking re-election. His health has been cited as the reason for his decision.
He has since openly endorsed Golding as the more suitable candidate to succeed him.
