U-20 World Champs: Kalawan cops 400mH silver
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland — Shannon Kalawan won Jamaica’s third medal in 24 hours at the IAAF World Under 20 Championships at Zawiszaw stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland after taking silver in the women’s 400m hurdles in 56.54 seconds.
Running a well-timed race, Kalawan came off the curve for home first but was chased and caught by American Anna Cockrell who won in a personal best 55.20 seconds.
It was Jamaica’s first medal in the event since Janieve Russell, won in Barcelona, Spain four years ago but 11th overall.
Canada’s Xahria Santiago whose father is from Trinidad and mother is from Jamaica was third in a season’s best 56.90 seconds.
Jamaica won a gold and bronze medal yesterday through Tifanny James and Junelle Bromfield respectively.
