U-20 World Champs: Hyde retains 400mH title
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland — Defending champion and favourite Jaheel Hyde completed his domination of the men’s 400m hurdles event at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships at Zawiszaw stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland as he strolled to a win in 49.03 seconds to give Jamaica’s its second gold of the championships.
Hyde who has run faster with each passing round got off to a fast start and had drawn even with the field by the midway point in the race. He then sped away to etch his name in history as the first man to defend his title in the intermediate hurdles.
American Taylor McLaughlin was second in a personal best 49.45 seconds while Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands was third in a national Under-20 record 49.56 seconds.
Meanwhile the men’s 4x100m relay team came up short of taking the bronze as they were edged by Germany, both teams running 39.13 seconds. The Jamaican team was Raheem Chambers, Nigel Ellis, Jhavaughn Matherson and Dejour Rusell. The USA won with 38.93 seconds with Japan second with 39.01 seconds.
