Cops launch body camera project
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the United States of America Embassy a short while ago launched the Body Worn Camera Project at the Office of Commissioner of Police on Old Hope Road in St Andrew.
The project, which is a collaborative initiative, is aimed at reducing conflict between law enforcement officers and citizens.
Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams noted that the initiative also serves to further professionalise the JCF and better interactions between its members and the public.
“…These devices will provide evidence against false accusations,” he said.
A total of 120 body cameras will be issued to lawmen from the St Andrew Central, St Andrew South, Kingston Eastern, Kingston Central, Motorized, and Traffic divisions of the JCF.
The cameras are expected to be worn on the pockets or vests of officers and data captured from them will be uploaded at the end of each duty.
The commissioner said the first phase of training for the use of the cameras has already been completed.
More information later.
