Woman with Down Syndrome dies during robbery
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Police are searching for three bandits who robbed a family home and business in Gasparillo, south of here on Thursday, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old woman living with Down Syndrome.
The authorities said that the bandits tied up and duct-taped Carla Achibal, who may have suffocated.
Media reports said that the bandits entered the Bonne Adventure mini-hardware early Thursday morning where Marlon Achibal, one of the family members, was sleeping.
They beat and tied him up and proceeded to rob the hardware store of several items before proceeding to the family home, upstairs, they tied up and duct-taped the father Vishnu and his daughter Carla.
The bandits also stole items from the house.
Marlon was able to raise an alarm and neighbours contacted the police and helped free him and the family.
An autopsy will be conducted on Carla to determine the exact cause of death.
