#PNPConference: Embrace change or get ‘rusty’, PJ tells Comrades
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – PJ Patterson, the former president of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP), says the 78-year-old organisation can only experience positive development if change is embraced.
“Change is a must. Any movement or party that don’t embrace change will get rusty,” he told Comrades gathered at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College High School in St Andrew, a short while ago.
Patterson noted, too, that a “change of renewal” was necessary to move the party forward.
“…It does not mean pushing out the old people and the people of experience. …But it must mean having the right blend, the right combination,” he said, adding “I don’t want this question about renewal to be a cause of polarisation in the party.”
“If you try to grab the baton too early you will be disqualified. And if you hand over the baton outside of the zone, you will also be disqualified,” he added.
Patterson said there will have to be a changing of the baton at some time so that fresh energy can come.
