Shane Ellis to make public apology
Following a ruling by the stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC), champion jockey Shane Ellis is to make a public apology in the official race book after breaching Rule 247 (xi) last Saturday during the conduct of the racing programme.The announcement from the stewards came in a release after inquiries held at their offices on Tuesday last.
The release stated: Jockey Shane Ellis was charged with breaching Rule 247 (xi) on Saturday, September 17, 2016 by his actions which included admitting unauthorised persons to the Jockeys’ Room. The stewards, after hearing submissions from jockey Ellis — who stated that he was at the time acting in the capacity of president of the Jockeys’ Association — ruled that:
(1) he had, by his actions, breached the provisions of Rule 247 (xi);
(2) his verbal apology was accepted;
(3) he should make a written public apology and have it published in the Track & Pools and
(4) should there be a recurrence in the future, stronger sanctions will be administered.
The stewards also announced the following disciplinary actions.
Jockey Dane Dawkins who rode Polly B in the third race on Saturday, August 6 was fined $6,000 for intimidation and interference caused to Rally Baby in the vicinity of the 200-metre point.
Jockey Obrien White, who rode Velocidad in the fifth race on Saturday, August 27, was fined $10,000 for his failure to ride his mount on its merit.
White was then suspended for 10 race days after his ride on Colors Of War in the ninth race on Wednesday – White was suspended for the interference caused to Mr Romantic resulting in the fall of the rider of Mr Romantic, and interference to Rashaida and Yes We Will approaching the 200-metre point. The suspension takes effect tomorrow, Saturday, September 24, 2016.
Jockey Jerome Innis who rode Rawalpindi Express in the fifth race on Wednesday, September 14 was fined $6,000 for the interference caused to IDon’tknow shortly after the start.
Jockey Anthony Thomas, who rode Silver Slippers in the seventh race on Wednesday, September 14, was cautioned for the interference caused to Luna Emma, Classy Butcher and Tam Tam shortly after the start of the race.
