Chrisanli to edge She’s A Maneater in Front Runner Dash

Chrisanli, a promising two-year-old colt with two good runs under his belt, gets a glorious opportunity to open his winning account as native-bred two-year-olds grab the spotlight in the Front Runner Sprint feature on the 11-race card at Caymanas Park today .

A bay colt by Adore The Gold out of the Royal Minister mare Adina, Chrisanli has had two promising starts in which he twice finished second. Bred by Stafford Subratie and owned and trained by Winston Morris,Chrisanli is down to face seven other runners in the maiden special weight contest of eight, going 1,100 metres for a purse of $1,000,000.

Chrisanli began his racing life on August 1 in an 800-metre straight dash where he went down to El Gato by 2 1/2 lengths while gaining on the eventual winner. He returned to the races some 26 days later and once again finished another second to the fleet-footedMoney Magnet by five lengths in the Rhoel Rhoden Memorial Trophy going over today’s journey.

The bay colt has returned from a four-week respite with a change of equipment that includes the tongue tie and Lasix added to the Visor that he wore for the first time on last. He was quite energetic in his preparation and looks promising with jockey Jevvanne Erwin continuing in the saddle.

However, even with worthwhile preparation, Chrisanli can expect competition from the pair of debutants She’s A Maneater — from the barn of Wayne DaCosta — who is well-touted to win this race, and Silver Rocket, trained by Fitzroy Glispie. Another first-time runner Terri’s Choice, also trained by Glispie, is not expected to have an impact on the outcome of the event.

By Natural Selection out of Ahwhofah by Royal Minister, She’s A Maneater is bred in the purple and should be quite at home over today’s journey and with the leading rider Omar Walker called to the saddle, is going to take a lot of beating. Half-sister to 2,000 Guineas Ali Baba, She’s A Maneater has worked brilliantly coming into this race, clocking an impressive 1:06.0 minutes for 1,100 metres with the last 1,000 metres at 59.3 seconds. News coming from railbirds is thatShe’s A Maneater will win this race on a common canter, but these are unpedictable two-year-olds.

Silver Rocket, the Silver Deputy colt, could prove to be a live contender, though he may need a longer trip to be seen at his best.

First Selection, a bay filly running for only the second time, is also of good worth. She was second to Awesome Sauce in the Front Runners Dash drama on September 3 following the fiasco of the 1/9 favourite, Balazo, who looked a lonely winner all the way until approaching the winning post where he bolted.

First Selection, by Natural Selection out of Cliffy’s Choice, and trained by Colin Blair for owner Golden Stables, following an encouraging first run, has been stepped up in her training for this. The filly was seen making late headway going 1,000 round in the First Runners Dash, and with the distance increased, is expected to be closer to the finish on this occasion with jockey Robert Halledeen remaining in the irons.
