KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former champions Charlie Smith High will seek to resume winning ways in one of five games across three groups, as return-leg action in the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association

(ISSA)/FLOW Manning Cup competition gets under way on Monday.

All games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.

After suffering a 0-2 defeat to Holy Trinity in their last fixture, Charlie Smith High could return to winning ways in Group E, when they host Mona High at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

The Arnett Gardens-based team having registered three wins from four games, currently occupy third position on nine points, while Mona is back in fourth position on the five-team table with only a point.

Despite going through a rebuilding phase, the Jerome Waite-led charges, who contested the final in 2011 and 2014, did enough to get by the opponents 2-1 when they first met at the top of the season.

However, it was a contest that left very little to talk about.

Both teams are now seasoned and today’s contest on an even better surface can go either way, but the scales are tipped in favour of the hosts. A dominant display will be on the cards for Charlie Smith as

they aim to improve their goal difference to get back into contention for the lucrative Super Cup spot.

Leaders Waterford High (nine points) and second-placed Holy Trinity (nine points) will be locked in an intriguing top-of-the-table clash in the other group fixture at the Santos/Bell Chung Oval, while Clan

Carthy (one point) will be idle today.

With many-time champions and group leaders St George’s College (nine points) being idle today, second-placed Excelsior (seven points) are expected to grab the early ascendancy in Group A. The Mountain View Avenue-based team will be visit cellar dwellers Tarrant High (one point) at Jacisera Park, where three points will again be on the cards.

Third-placed Greater Portmore (seven points) will play away to Tivoli Gardens (three points) in what is expected to be a close affair. In their previous meeting the game ended 3-2 in favour of the former and

the outcome could be a similar one.

Greater Portmore are currently in with a grand chance of advancing to the second round should either of the top two teams falter along theway.

Meanwhile, the lone Group B fixture will see Eltham (two points) hosting St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), also on two points in a contest which could see the points go either way if not again

being shared.
