Events with over 1,000 patrons to be equipped with CCTV camera
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Some promoters of entertainment events will have to hire CCTV systems and metal detectors for their events in the future.
Minister of National Security Robert Montague told the House of Representatives this afternoon that Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams has instructed that all such events catering to an audience of 1,000 or more must have in place CCTV and metal detectors.
The minister also announced that the promoters will have to retain the footage of the event for at least 30 days.
Montague also announced that the government is building out a network for privately owned CCTV systems to feed into the police system.
He said that the ministry has already engaged the Ministry of Local Government for the development of over 400 units to establish a police post and a CCTV network.
