Vijahn revisits his roots
Vijahn salutes the Motherland on his latest song, Kunta Kente, produced by Mango Tree Entertainment.
He believes there are not enough songs produced in Jamaica that hail the black majority’s African ancestors.
“Jamaica needs songs that empower us as black people and keep the ancestral spirits alive,” said Vijahn.
Kunta Kente was a pivotal figure in Roots, American writer/historian Alex Haley’s epic book and television mini-series.
Vijahn’s next song, Mash Down Rome, another Mango Tree Entertainment production, is scheduled for release soon.
Born Anthony Edwards in Kingston, Vijahn grew up in Rock Hall, Portland and attended Titchfield High School. In 2004, he converted to the Rastafarian faith, re-christening himself Vijahn.
His breakthrough song was Black Flag, produced by Dave Mitchell of Beego’s Production.
Recently, he signed a management and production deal with Mango Tree Entertainment.
