America
In the aftermath of the first in a series of scheduled debates in the United States presidential race, many are of the view that the match card shows Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to be the winner of round one. The widely held view, echoed in the polls published in the media, is that Trump seemed less than au fait with matters such as macroeconomic policy and foreign trade. Richard Hugh Blackford says, however, than when all the dust settles, the real loser is America. That the Republican party can hold up Trump as their standard-bearer, Blackford chides, is an “insult to the image of America” as the emblem of democracy.
