‘Me neva do it fi hurt her’
A man was schooled on Friday by Chief Parish Judge Judith Pusey on how he ought to treat his elders .
The court heard that on September 5, the man pushed the complainant’s aunt, causing her to receive a bruise on her elbow.
Though 22-year-old Mario Bruce pleaded guilty to the assault charge he noted that there was an explanation.
“Ma’am she come into my way an me a try walk her out an she block me, so me try push her out of the way an she drop. Me never push her hard or nothing,” he stated when asked to explain himself.
But Pusey wasn’t moved.
“She is not your girlfriend, she’s your aunt,” Judge Pusey chided. “She is not a child and you don’t push her out di way. When my aunty a talk to me me have to sit and bear it as big as I am. When she gone me say all me want.”
“She is the one who try assault me, Your Honour an me a try walk her out. Me never mean it,” he stated, to which the judge reminded him that the fine for such a charge is $1 million or three years in jail.
When asked to state why he shouldn’t go to prison for his act, Bruce said: “I don’t deserve it, Your Honour, ’cause a walk me a try walk her out fi avoid her.”
Bruce was fined $10,000 or 16 months in prison.
