#TrackingMatthew: JDF deploys troops islandwide
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in their preparation for Hurricane Matthew, which is now possibly less than 36 hours away, has already pre-deployed troops across the island as part of the national disaster response mechanism.
A post on the JDF’s Facebook page today said they have completed their internal preparation for the impending storm and the Engineer Regiment has pre-deployed engineering specialist teams and logistics units to carry out relief operations, if required.
The JDF also said that their Airwing and Coast Guards are also on standby to conduct search and rescue missions where necessary, while infantry units are continuing to assist the police in the maintenance of law and order with an extra focus being placed on securing identified town centres and critical areas.
In the meantime, the JDF is urging people to take the necessary safety precautions during the passage of Hurricane Matthew.
