KINGSTON, Jamaica — The operators of the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) have advised that the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) has been closed.

“Based on the latest update from the Meteorological (Met) Office of Jamaica as well as discussions with Met Office personnel concerning the projected path and impact of Hurricane Matthew, the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) will  operate today October 2, 2016 up to midnight to facilitate the final flight – jet Blue’s departure to New York,” NMIA Airports Limited said in a release late Sunday.

The airport was closed about 3:00 am and is scheduled to reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday subject to weather conditions, the state of the airport and access to the airport.

Passengers booked on cancelled flights are advised to contact their travel agent or airline’s customer care number for rebooking options, NMIA said.

The Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) also advised that the Tinson Pen Aerodrome in Kingston was closed t at 7:00 pm Sunday (normal closing time) and will reopen on Tuesday, subject to weather conditions and the state of the airport and airport access.

“The Ian Fleming International Airport (IFIA) in Boscobel, the Negril Aerodrome in Hanover and the Ken Jones Aerodrome in Portland, are not planned to be closed at this point.  These aerodromes serve the important role of facilitating emergency operations as required during events of this nature.  Similar to NMIA, the weather condition will be monitored to determine whether there should be the closure of any of these facilities at any time,” the release added.
