NWA announces 3-day closure of section of Marcus Garvey Drive
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists using Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston, that a section of the west-bound carriage way (heading to Portmore Toll) will be closed for three days starting tomorrow.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that the section of the roadway that will be impacted is between East Avenue and the Total Gas Station in the vicinity of the Shoemaker Gully.
He says the closure is necessary to allow the contractor working on the road to add material in order to facilitate the lifting of that section of road.
Sections of Marcus Garvey Drive are being lifted by as much as three feet, NWA said in news release Wednesday.
During the period of the closure, west-bound traffic will be diverted to the east-bound lane, which will be shared by motor vehicles heading in both directions.
NWA is therefore advising motorists to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of the flag persons during the period of the closure.
