Trinidad-based directors on fraud charges in Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — The general manager of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), Nizam Hassan, will return to court on December 7 after he was charged along with several Trinidad and Tobago based company directors with fraud.
Hassim, the former general manager of the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with intent to defraud together with three others by continuously approving payment which was incompetently and incorrectly done with inferior materials to rehabilitate the GMC building.
Police have also charged 34-year-old Felicia De’Souza-Madramootoo with the same count. Her husband, Hanniel Madramootoo who is a project engineer within the Ministry of Agriculture, along with his brother Philip Madramootoo and his friend Nizam Ramkisson, both directors of the Trinidad-based Constantine Engineering and Construction Limited were also jointly charged.
However, the three men were not present in court since they have since left for Trinidad. Chief Magistrate McLennan has since issued arrest warrants for them
Hassim and De’Souza-Madramootoo have been released on GUY$250,000 (US$1,000) bail each and ordered them to report at the headquarters of the Special Organised Crime Unit every Friday.
