Heavy rain puts NWA on alert in north and eastern parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The National Works Agency (NWA) says that its teams in the parishes of St Ann, St Mary, Portland and St Thomas are on full alert, as another period of inclement weather starts to impact these parishes.
In a press release this afternoon, the NWA said that heavy rain since last night has been impacting most of the parishes and flooding has been reported in Portland and St Thomas.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said that flooding has been reported in Portland and St Thomas.
“The Hopewell and Orange Bay communities in Portland today experienced some amount of flooding, while in St Thomas sections of the main road between Morant Bay and Port Morant were impacted. The road through the community of Port Morant is now impassable, due to flooding,” manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said.
Shaw added that the NWA has also put key partners on alert, in order to respond to situations that might arise resulting from the increased rainfall.
Among the areas where people are being advised to exercise caution is the road through the Junction, St Mary, the Buff Bay and Rio Grande valleys in Portland and the stretch from Bath to Hordley in St Thomas.
