INDECOM probes Santa Cruz police shooting
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which probes alleged excesses by the security forces, is investigating the circumstances under which a man was shot and killed during a confrontation with the police in this south central town early Monday afternoon.
Up to late Monday, the police had not released the identity of the dead man.
Police reports are that a female officer on duty at the centre of the town observed a man allegedly printing lead sheets usually used in lotto scamming operations.
Police say the officer identified herself as police and sought to accost the man.
The latter resisted, allegedly pulled a knife, and sought to disarm the officer.
He was shot in the process, police say.
The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
